GHS Field Hockey has new look

The Tomahawks will have a new look in 2013 after a state quarterfinals run last season and 13 graduating seniors opens the door for new stars on the field in Glastonbury.

“We were a senior dominated team last year,” Glastonbury head coach Maureen Perkins said, “I am excited about the opportunities that exist for returning varsity players who did not get a chance to contribute significantly last year and to see what our new players bring to the program. It is a matter of figuring out what each person’s role is going to be and working hard every day.”

Leyna DiMarco, a junior midfielder, and Ashley Sanzaro, a senior defender, are two of the key returning players from last year’s 13-1-1 campaign.

With nine new starters, the goal remains the same for the Tomahawks as the new season begins.

“The goal every year is to win the CCC West, qualify for the state tournament and make a deep run in the Class L bracket,” the coach said. “We have strong leadership and a desire to win. We work hard and push each other to get better.”
