Knights’ volleyball strong again

The Ellington girls volleyball team returns a high powered offense in 2013, led by setters Sam Salwa, a senior All-Conference choice last year, and junior Jenna Ferguson.

“Our key to success this year will be a strong offense,” Ellington head coach Allison Watras said. “If we can capitalize on every offensive play we are given, we should have a winning record.”

The Knights must work to improve their defense however, after losing key defensive athletes to graduation after a 7-11 campaign.

Ellington will look to challenge Avon, Coventry and Granby at the top of the conference.

Eight seniors return from a 14-4 squad just one year ago, fueling speculation that the Bobcats will again be a force in the CCC this season.

“ I’m really looking forward to this year’s team with these eight seniors,” South Windsor head coach Tina Holt said. “The the JV and 9th grade teams are also strong again due a good freshmen class.”
