Legion Wrap: Ellington-Somers, Windsor Locks have solid seasons

The Ellington-Somers Senior American Legion baseball team’s run through the Northern Division Sectional came to a disappointing end against Newington as the home team scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 victory. Ellington was playing its third nine inning game in three days.

Newington opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning getting runners on due to an infield error and a single by Ryan Callahan and scoring the first run on a passed ball. The second run scored on a single by Isaiah Rivera.

Ellington finally broke through in the top of the third inning

As Mike Lesco walked, Neal Janiga singled and both scored on back to back singles by Jake Gagne and Colin Tiernan to tie the score at 2 – 2.

Justin Oliver pitched 7 1/3 innings for Ellington giving up four runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking four. Janiga relieved Oliver in the eighth inning and gave up two runs on two hits. Tiernan had three hits for Ellington.

The team posted a 13-11 record during the regular season.

Windsor Locks

Windsor Locks was spectacular during the regular season, winning 23 straight games and collecting a 23-1 record.

However, after having a triple-bye in the first round of the Northern Sectionals.

Windsor Locks fell 4-0 to New London, ending its remarkable season prematurely.
